This state has a range of terrain, with rolling hills, farmland, and many lakes and reservoirs. Indiana summers are hot and very humid, while winters can be bitterly cold. The "snow belt" area along Lake Michigan gets especially heavy snow, due to lake-effect precipitation and blizzards. The southern part of the state along the Ohio River gets the most rain, which can lead to flooding. Thunderstorms are common in summer months; and though not officially part of Tornado Alley, the state does get its share of tornadoes.
