Though the weather in the Bay State is known to be unpredictable, residents can count on hot, humid summers and cold winters with plenty of precipitation. Thunderstorms are common in summer, and hurricanes and tornadoes have happened intermittently throughout the years. Nor'easters and other severe winter storms can bring high winds, icing and excessive snow, cause power outages and other damage. Many areas throughout the state are vulnerable to flooding, both coastal and inland.
