Denver enjoys 300-plus days of sunshine each year. But between the Rocky Mountains on the west and the plains on the east, the climate varies greatly. The eastern plains are prone to extreme weather, with frequent thunderstorms, occasional tornadoes, and some of the most damaging lightening and hail on record. The western mountains can get more than 300 inches of snow-which can cause avalanches, landslides, mudslides, and flooding come spring. Droughts and heat waves can occur in summertime.
